On Halloween, Nia, Shannon and Alex represented the Working Denbighshire team at the STAND (Stronger Together for Additional Needs and Disabilities) ‘Spooktacular Event’ at Rhyl town hall. The day was marking the first birthday celebrations of the STAND North Wales team, as well as the official launch day of their resource lending library.
As well as Working Denbighshire, there were staff from STAND themselves, Karma Wellbeing, Contact, Integrated Autism Service, Family Information Service, Leisure, Disability Wellbeing, Team Around the Family, Action on Hearing Loss Cymru, Careers Wales, North Wales Learning Disability Transformation Project, Flying Start, Occupational Therapy and PACE. The public that attended commented on how much information they obtained whilst at the event.
The event was popular with young children, many of which were in their Halloween-themed fancy dress costumes, accompanied by their loved ones. Each stand had the chance to provide information regarding their respected services whilst embracing the good-natured spirit of the day (no pun intended!)
Various games and activities were set up to ensure all of the little witches and ghouls had a fun day, with toys and sweets given out as prizes. Rest assured, the parents would have some hyperactive children for the rest of the day!
On our Working Denbighshire stand, we had two different games available. The first, we put on ‘x’ marker on the floor. The children had to throw a small eyeball bouncy ball into one of three bowls arranged on the stand, each one having a toy, chocolate or sweet in it. In addition, we also had garden Jenga.
This was an enjoyable day for everyone that was a part of it. We had a chance to chat with the adults, the children and network with other professionals about the services that are available.
