Mr M self-referred himself to Working Denbighshire as he was having a difficulty finding work after being made redundant in 2020 following Covid19. After a conversation over the phone we identified his suitability for the Communities for Work Plus project and he was allocated to an Employment Mentor, Tom.
After a few meetings with Tom, Mr M identified that he would really like to obtain a CSCS labourers card. As Mr M had a strong construction work background, Communities for Work Plus agreed to provide support to him with this as it was felt that he would stand a good chance or returning to work in construction if he obtains the CSCS card. C4W+ purchased the CSCS revision book which was sent to Mr M’s address so he could revise for the test. Mr M completed the one-day Site Safety Awareness training and passed the CSCS test at the first attempt. C4W+ then applied for his CSCS card which Mr M received.
Mr M was hopeful of gaining employment now he has got the CSCS card and whilst he didn’t really need help with applying for jobs, he didn’t seem to be getting any interviews. Tom arranged for him to be supported by the Working Denbighshire Employment Engagement Officers who were able to set up an interview for Mr M with Wye Valley Construction who have got the contract to demolish the old Queens Market in the local town centre.
Mr M had a pre-screening chat to identify his strong points during interviews and areas he would benefit from improving on, he was then put forward for an interview with the manager of the Wye Valley project. Mr M successfully passed the interview and was offered full time employment on the Queens Market demolition for a 6 month contract. He began work in February 2021. In addition, Communities For Work Plus bought him a new pair of work boots to wear at work and put him through an Asbestos Awareness training course. Mr M was very grateful for the support and being back in employment.
