Mr A had accessed Working Denbighshire to receive support to help him find work, he was not sure what he wanted to do but was enthusiastic to find something he would enjoy. Mr A had been applying for jobs for a while but had not managed to secure an interview which affected his confidence in himself.
Following a discussion with our triage team, it was decided the Communities for Work project would most suit his needs. The scheme has been supported by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government. Through working with his Youth Mentor, Mr A’s confidence began to grow. He completed his C.V, practiced his interview techniques and was guided through application forms together, as well as receiving 1-1 advice and support to help him overcome his anxiety. This gave Mr A more confidence in his own abilities and he was able to show employers what he could offer them.
Mr A was very proactive in trying to secure work but found it difficult to find opportunities available in the local area that matched his skillset, he also realised how much time and effort needs to go into each application form which made the process more difficult for him. He worked with Communities for Work for approximately 3-4 months, his Youth Mentor spent over 2 months meeting with him on a weekly basis and applying for positions that matched his experience.
Mr A found out he had secured an interview for a Customer Assistant role at the local Tesco branch. He was invited for an interview and after lots of preparation and encouragement with his Youth Mentor, he felt confident he would wow his prospective employer and be offered the position. After his interview, Mr A revealed that he had been invited for an interview at Sainsbury’s the previous year but did not attend due to his self-confidence and anxiety. Feedback from Mr A’s interview was brilliant, he went in confidently and asked lots of questions relevant to the role, he then found that he was successful and was over the moon.
