Working Denbighshire at the Oaktree Centre
Working Denbighshire are always striving to build relationships with new teams and venues across Denbighshire. On October 8th, we had the opportunity to engage with staff and parents at the Oaktree Centre in Ffordd Las, Rhyl for the first time. The lovely Oaktree staff warmly welcomed and supported Emma Benson and Alex Peters throughout the morning. A stand was set up in the foyer, equipped with Working Denbighshire leaflets, induction booklets, pop ups information cards, referral forms and free notepads, pens and charging power banks.
There was a good stream of parents popping into the centre throughout the morning, as they were taking their children to the childcare playgroup. We had a good chat with many of the parents and their little ones, a lot of which were inquisitive about what we were offering. We used this as an opportunity to offer employability support and a free paediatric first aid course to all who were interested.
In the afternoon, Tina joined Alex in place of Emma ready for the ‘Little Adventurers’ group. This group is in the big hall at the centre and the young children are free to play with a wide range of fun toys, supported by the enthusiastic youth workers. Tina and Alex had a chat with some of the parents there and offered the same support as was on offer in the morning session. The paediatric first aid course was particularly well received.
It was lovely to have the chance to chat with the youth workers in such a relaxed environment. James Salisbury was particularly keen to establish further communications with Working Denbighshire moving forward and offered to pop in to Rhyl library at some point to chat with the rest of the WD team.
The staff at the Oaktree Centre were very kind in passing on their gratitude in having Working Denbighshire offering support to the parents at the centre. We are hoping we can visit the centre again soon!
For future engagement sessions at the Oaktree centre, please keep an eye on the events page on the DCC website.
